That's right, I'm officially a Culinary Arts student!

I just haven't started any of my fun culinary classes yet. Boo!!!! I have, however, started my math class and communications class, both of which I'm enjoying so far. My date to start culinary classes is October 19th. I didn't realize this (and it really would have been nice to know, but my bad!) until I had already scrambled around like a chicken with her head cut off to acquire the items they so graciously gave a week's notice about (at least, at the time I thought I only had a week). Black chefs pants - ordered and delivered, SO NOT ATTRACTIVE! Black skull caps (when I picture a skull cap, I think of a knitted hat, good thing they re-emailed and clarified before the knitting frenzy began) - black fabric purchased and 1 hat sort of made (I just winged it, it'll do), again NOT ATTRACTIVE! White aprons - white denim purchased and 1 3/4 full bib aprons finished before they again re-emailed to specify that half aprons were preferred (;alsdkjf;lajksfasd;lkfjasf;lkjfasdj;lk ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!!!), oh well, I'll try just folding them in half, I still have more fabric anyway, these are actually pretty cute (even if they are plain). Professional set of chef's knives - nothing completed there yet, but at least now I have longer than 1WEEK to save for these!
I have no pictures of my wildly unattractive uniform as of yet, it's been a busy week, even if I'm only attending 2 classes. Did I mention my husband is back in school as well?
I'm hoping to have a few more posts soon, here's what I'm working on: A fug blue and orange apron for a bridal shower (they're her favorite colors, go Boise State, but to me. . .it's still fug!). A remedied recipe for chocolate marshmallow fondant, because I botched the last batch I made. A zombie cake for the previously mentioned bridal shower, she and her FI love zombies, so her theme is "'Til Death Do They Part. . .Maybe?" I'm still working on the design of the cake, but I've got some ideas.

New Puker Rags. . .I mean Burp Cloth designs!

Yay, new burp cloths! Or puker rags, as I called them when my son was little. Oh man, did I use a lot of puker rags!!!

I love the girly fabric! I bought it awhile ago with the idea of making my mom tote bags for her birthday. . .but I don't know why I bought this fabric for my mom! I think I was secretly just wanting to buy it, it's really not my mom's style - like, AT ALL! Anyway, my friend's (Andrea, the one I did the wedding cake for) friend, Tessa called me and wanted to buy some burp cloths for a baby shower she was going to, she gave me the expectant mama's registry information, in case I had a better idea for a style, other than what I had listed on Etsy. It turns out I had the perfect fabric! These are the result of that.

The next burp cloths were picked out by my dearest friend, Jenn, who has a friend expecting a little boy. Even though I have a little boy, I'm drawn to girly, frilly, pinky things. There's something wrong with me. Anyway, here's the end product, super cute as well!

Lingerie in the Kitchen revisited!

I love, love, love these aprons! I cannot express how much I love these! This is a sexy apron! Lace, rhinestones, beaded jewels - it's enough to make a drag queen swoon!! As I said on my Etsy site, this is a "forget the dinner, go straight for dessert" kind of apron!

I really feel the pictures aren't even doing it justice, it's very difficult to photograph.

What girl doesn't love flip flops, especially when they sparkle!!

I mean, seriously, I love flip flops! I wear them whenever possible, I have major flip flop "tan" lines (I use quotations because saying I'm tan is really stretching it) on my feet. So, how do you improve on a good thing? Why you take the best flip flops in the world (Havaiana's, if you were confused) and make 'em sparkly!!!

Ahhhh, I love my Bejeweler Pro! Have I mentioned it's pink?! Thanks Bling, Bling Fairy!

Weddings, I love weddings! Drinks all around!

I really do love weddings, like, love, love, love weddings! So, I was ecstatic when my friend, Andrea, asked if I would do her wedding cake. Heck, yes, I'll do your wedding cake!!! So, we sat down to plan it out, she had no clue what she wanted, but since she was having a very simple wedding, she wanted a very simple cake. In fact at first she was saying she would like just one small pretty cake for pictures and then sheet cakes for the guests. BORING! I told her I could just as easily do a tiered cake and she agreed, but she wanted either a square or rectangular cake. Perfect! I had square pans from doing the PacMan cake for my sister's 80s party/wedding (one day I'll try to remember to post that here) and they were the perfect size for how many guests were coming. We started looking through pictures on the internet to find ideas and she picked out something very simple. She did see a cake labelled as being made with marshmallow fondant, to which she exclaimed, "Gross!!!" I told her that it actually was very tasty. . .what I didn't tell her was that I was already planning on using MM fondant. One of the reasons she was having me do her wedding cake was to save money and MM fondant is about the cheapest you can get. I knew she wouldn't really be able to tell a difference between that or if I ordered Satin Ice (which, by the way, if you're going to buy fondant, don't buy Wilton, yuck!!! Buy Satin Ice, much tastier. . .and cheaper than Wilton!). So, her wedding day was today and the cake was a smashing success (speaking of smashing, no, the couple was very nice to each other and didn't smash cake in each other's mouths), I got compliments on it from the minute we showed up. Nick had to carry that thing, though. That motha' was HEAVY! Oh, and when the bride told me she liked the fondant, I finally told her it was marshmallow, she laughed. Anyway, enough talking, here's the pic:

Lingerie in the kitchen!

My poor son! The kid's mother needs to make some manly crafts. Seriously! I made some new hair bows to list on Etsy. Maybe one day I'll make a sale, but for now it's fun just to put them up there and then see how many people view them. I'm a simple girl, easy to please.

In addition to bows, I'm hoping to soon list something completely different! Something for the mamas, the wives, the homemakers, the cooks, the bakers. Aprons! Not just plain cotton aprons, fancy aprons. Think lace and pearls, think lingerie in the kitchen (if you wear lingerie covering everything from chest to mid-thigh, but you get the idea, right?). I can't take credit for this idea completely, it's stolen from my sister (the Bling Bling Fairy), but she stole the idea when she was in New Zealand.

I went to Joann's today and stocked up on some silky wares. Here's a sneak peek of the fabrics:

And close-ups of the lace:

And, because I'm not a completely uncaring mother, some fabric to make him some jammies. Yay!!!

4th of July cake!

Ok, too tired to talk about it too much. . .but the MM fondant worked great! Can't wait to show off my cake tomorrow!!

Sweet, sweet goodness! AKA: Marshmallow Fondant - KitchenAid Style!

What's the point of Blogger saving my posts periodically for me, if when I accidentally hit "View Blog" and it takes me to my blog, even though I HIT "CANCEL" if it does not actually save it. Correction. It saved my title. What the hell?!

Well, I had a lot longer, more informative post. This is all you get now: I made marshmallow fondant in my KitchenAid. It's lemon flavored and delicious.

Oh. And a picture too. Look, fondant. It weighs 2 3/4 pounds. Oooooooooohhhh!

::sigh::

My sister, the Bling Bling Fairy!

How cool is my sister? Pretty damned cool!!!
So, awhile back I was talking about Swarovski crystals with my sis. Can't really recall the specifc conversation, but my sister was telling me there is a rhinestone affixing tool that heat sets the crystals and how she got one for her sister-in-law.
Out of the blue, I told my mom how I wanted one of these and she says, "Well, there's supposed to be only one really good one, but I don't remember the name of it." No problem, I'll text Alyssa, she'll know the name. Here's how our text conversation goes:
Me: "Hey, do you remember the name of the rhinestone affixing tool?"
Lyss: "Uh, yeah, but don't buy it."
Me: "Oh. Ok. Why?" - thinking in my head, shoot, it's not so great after all!
Lyss: "'Cuz you might be getting a visit from the Swarvski fairy. Check the mail."
Me: "Oh my gosh, Lyss! I can't believe you did that! You're the best sister/fairy ever! Thank you!"
Lyss: "It wasn't me! It was the Bling Bling Fairy! And I mean the mythical creature, not the tranny." - this made laugh a lot! My mom didn't find this funny. I told her, thinking she would get a kick out of it. She just said, "Oh." Of course, yesterday when I told her Billy Mays died, she said, "Who?" I said, "You know, the OxyClean commercial guy." She started laughing hysterically, like it was the funniest thing she had ever heard in her life. I thought she was going to pee her pants. My husband and I just kept looking at each with shocked faces, wondering if the other got what was so funny. She's an odd duck, that one. Twisted sense of humor.

Anyway, this means future goods will be a lot more dazzling, thanks to the Bling Bling Fairy. . .not the tranny. I think I see Swarvoski crystal-laden Havaianas, coming soon to KirCreates!

Apparently I created a bit more than buzz about my new Etsy store.

So, without further ado, I give you my blog. I've been wanting to start a blog anyway, this was just the kick in the pants I needed. I will warn you, I'm not always the most interesting person, but I will do my best to not lull you into a comma with my not-so-verbose ways. I also haven't a clue at what I'm doing, so I'm just a-wingin' it here, forgive me.

"The Etsy Betsy Spider crawled up thenestbaby spout,
she promoted her store,
and got herself kicked out (not quite, but I think some of the EFFers wanted me to be),
she created a blog, just to keep the peace,
so the Etsy Betsy Spider is off to the nest again."

Couldn't think of how to end my song, eh, it was lame anyway. . .
